The Department of Science Education was established in the province of Muş under Fırat University Faculty of Education in the 2006-2007 academic year, and since 29 May 2007, it has been continuing its education within Muş Alparslan University.

The students who complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Bachelor Programme in Science Education. Those who want to enroll in Muş Alparslan University (MSU) undergraduate degree programs must get the sufficient score required by MSU from the exam administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) and should not have an existing enrollment in another higher education program. The prospective science teachers who graduate from the department can work as science teachers in public and private primary schools, science centers, botanic gardens, and so on. Furthermore, if one continues his/her education through master's and Ph.D. education may work as a researcher in universities or institutions.

The aims of the department of elementary science education include contributions to teacher preparation, educational research, and service. The graduates of the Department of Science Education should have the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the teaching profession; follow trends in science education and science; be able to select and use appropriate teaching methods and strategies while teaching science; have awareness of professional and ethical issues; be able to work in groups. The Department has bilateral agreements within the scope of ERASMUS, FARABİ, and MEVLANA Student and Academic Exchange Program.

The program has 2 professors, 1 associate professor, 3 assistant professors, and 1 research assistant. Faculty members teach graduate and undergraduate courses, provide professional service for national and local educational institutions, and conduct research in the area of science education. The department emphasizes the preparation and continuing professional development of science teachers, as well as teacher educators. Besides, the department aims to educate prospective science teachers as sensitive to research, enhancer to a positive attitude, and scientifically literate science teachers. The goal of the department is to train teachers depending on the reforms and principles of Atatürk, having the ability to use their superior technology, being well-educated in terms of the field and profession of information for the Turkish National Education. In this respect, in the light of universal values, it aims to raise individuals equipped for the country's future and to provide for the benefit of the community production in the field of research, education, and services of that individual with the benefits of savings from science, technology, and the arts.

Our vision is to become a department attributing to national and international improvements with the technology, information, and education that Muş Alparslan University provides in national and international environments to the ones attending the Faculty of Education, Science Education Department that is a privilege of Muş Alparslan University.

Science Education Department aims to contribute to the highly qualified teacher needs which have been increasing recently by educating individuals who produce information and spread the information acquired at the same time.

It is expected for graduates to be well-informed and competent trainers and tutorials adapting and leading themselves to the situations that can change through their teaching career.
